Task
What began as a research study for a University of Sydney PhD student evolved into something much larger. Code Brewery was engaged to scope, design, and build E-BARQ (Equine Behaviour Assessment and Research Questionnaire), a platform investigating how horse training and management interact with behaviour.

Outcome
E-BARQ has grown from a proof of concept into a refined research portal with an ever-expanding global user base, now operating across more than a dozen countries with multilingual support.

The platform enables horse owners to create personal accounts and log detailed information about their horses. This data is collated and presented back through comprehensive graphing, giving owners insight into their horses’ health, welfare, and behavioural trends over time.

Key capabilities include custom graphing for individual horses, automated survey reminders, and group functionality that allows riding clubs or stables to benchmark horses against others in their cohort.

Code Brewery has partnered with the E-BARQ team since 2019, evolving the platform as the research project has expanded internationally.

After a less than positive experience using an offshore development team, getting to work with the team and Code Brewery is a godsend. The team are incredibly skilled and knowledgable, their work is exceptional. But what really stands out is there communication and responsiveness. Not every brief we provide them is perfect.
